A day in the life
of a real estate agent.
Are you thinking a career in real estate is laid-back lax? If so, you are in for a surprise! Every day holds a new challenge and opportunities. Being the face and CEO of your business means you get to call the shots and organize your day that best serves you. We asked a few of our own agents to see what “a day in the life” looks like for them and here’s what they had to say.
The week never ends.
A quote straight from the mouth of one of our real estate agents, Kendra Wilson. When it comes to real estate, no two days are going to look identical. Being a real estate agent is like being a project manager, you are the main point of contact between all of the parties involved, which include sellers, buyers, other agents, photographers, inspectors, title agents, and the list goes on and on.
For Kendra, her day starts with whatever her customer’s needs are. If she has a marketing presentation for a potential listing, she starts her day compiling her marketing presentation. This includes creating a CMA and pulling the BMA from Buyside. She says she loves seeing what buyers already match the property because it excites the sellers! Once she has those items printed, she combines them in a branded folder with physical marketing pieces such as just listed postcards and brochures from previous listings.
When she’s not putting together marketing presentations, she is making sure she is actively marketing to potential customers who could use her services! Her favorite ways to do this are on social media where she focuses on Facebook and on “in the mailbox” efforts. When it comes to social media, she is on it daily making sure to share some behind the scenes and the different stages of her listings, whether that’s just listed, under contract or sold! She also makes sure to have postcards go out throughout the stages of a listing and she advertises monthly in a local magazine.
Kendra is also an active member of her church and makes sure EVERYBODY knows that she’s in real estate! Showing up on a weekly basis and interacting with her peers is something that is on her list so she can stay top of mind.
Communication is a huge part of her daily routine as she is the main point of contact for all of the moving pieces that come with a real estate transaction. Whether she’s taking calls for showing appointments, scheduling inspections, or setting up appointments with potential customers, you can guarantee that she has her phone nearby and is at the ready!
Now, this is an overarching glimpse into what the life of a real estate agent is like but hopefully it gave you a perspective that encourages you to push forward and have a fulfilling career in real estate!

For me, the most important thing is staying organized.
Home Marketing Specialist Brandon Moore-Johnson has a very regimented schedule that allows him to serve his customers and take care of his growing family. Each day may hold different tasks, but the way he structures his day remains the same.
In the mornings, he schedules two hours to work in his business. This includes making follow up calls to potential customers, updating his sellers, and making appointments for his current listings. Next on his list is a three hour block to be out and about for his appointments with lenders, his sellers, showing buyers homes, and more. Following the appointments he dedicates at least an hour to working on his business, creating resources and executing his marketing plan for each of his customers. Brandon ends his day by wrapping up any loose ends from the day.
Again, this is a very high overview of what a day in the life of a real estate agent looks like, and your day could look totally different from Brandon’s and Kendra’s, but you’ll each have the same goal: to be a FOREVER real estate agent.

A few things they forgot to mention…
We wanted to make sure we included a few more details on what a day in the life of a real estate agent looks like.
One, your evenings and weekends are jam-packed. Think about it, you are helping people with one of the BIGGEST financial investments of their lives and most of these people work Monday through Friday, 40 hours a week. So, most likely, your customers are going to request appointments to be weekday evenings or weekends because that’s when it is most convenient for their schedule!
Two, you’re always marketing… yourself, your listings, your services, etc. So you need to make sure you are putting your best foot forward when you are meeting new people and marketing on social media platforms.
Three, you’re not in this alone. Yes, you are the CEO of your small business and even though you may work “alone” you’re not truly alone! Depending on the brokerage you join {like ours}, you’ll have a non-competing broker to coach you; an administrative team to take care of the nitty gritty details; an accounting department to take care of the financials; a marketing team to supply you with all of the materials needed to make you successful; an education department to make sure you’re sharp as a tack; and a brand that will be here for you, FOREVER.
